I am Rev. Dr. Leisa Huyck, the founder of Viriditas Ministries and an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister. Before becoming a minister, I was an ecologist. I am called to help our culture make the spiritual transformation we need in order to live on our beautiful, blue-green planet sustainably, with love and justice for all. Instead of serving just one congregation, I serve the world.
The Latin word viriditas means “greening.” It was first used by a 12th-century abbess, Hildegard of Bingen, to refer to the power of divine love to green the world. Viriditas is the power that heals and nourishes and causes all life to grow. Unitarian Universalists often call this power the Spirit of Life.
Our world is desperately in need of greening, at every level of being. Hearts are being broken by violence and abuse. Civil society is breaking down. The whole web of life is being torn asunder.
The purpose of this website is to offer you nourishment for the work of greening. In these pages I hope you will find inspiration, practical tools, and ways to connect with other seekers like you.
